Learn Legal Terminology through Case Studies

Target Audience:

• Language Level: B1-B2 learners of legal English as Spanish speakers and above levels.
• Objective: To enhance vocabulary, pronunciation, and presentation skills in legal English, focusing on overcoming fears related to vocabulary, pronunciation, and miscommunication.

Course Structure:

1. Self-Study Component (Private LMS):
   • Interactive Case Analysis: Analyze real legal cases via video with interactive transcripts featuring pop-up windows for term meanings, Spanish equivalents, and examples in legal contexts.
   • Interactive Exercises and Multimedia Games: Complete comprehension exercises (matching terms and definitions, fill-in-the-blank, puzzles, vocabulary charts, guess the word) on case events and legal terminology.
2. Live Online Sessions (Small Groups, Max 6):

1. Live Online Sessions (Small Groups, Max 4- 6):
   • Oral Production Practice: Present case facts, describe sequences of events, analyze cause-effect relations, express opinions, compare and contrast situations, justify opinions, speculate, express agreement/disagreement, and describe alternate scenarios.
   • Reported Speech Practice: Engage in reported speech exercises (e.g., what the defendant said).
   • Role Plays and Multimedia Scenarios: Engage in role-playing activities such as:
     • Scenario-Based Discussions: For example, acting as a judge, explain why you said «don’t push it» when the plaintiff wanted to claim other payments.
     • TV Show-Inspired Games: Participate in games inspired by TV shows, where questions are categorized into «who,» «what,» «when,» and others to analyze events of the case or scenes. Earn points for correct answers and participate in discussions to deepen understanding.

• Translation Exercises: The course is not a translation exercise between English and Spanish legal terms.
